BD Vaccination Rules

11. Equine Influenza Vaccination
To protect the health of the other competing horses and the biosecurity of the venue,
a valid passport must accompany the horse to all competitions and be produced
on request. Failure to comply is a disciplinary offence and will debar the horse from
competing at the event for which it has been entered. A horse will not be permitted to
compete unless it has a current vaccination against equine influenza which complies with
the following conditions:
• An initial course of two injections for primary vaccination, not less than 21 days
and not more than 92 days apart, are required before being eligible to compete.
• A first booster injection must be given between 150 and 215 days after the
second injection of primary vaccination.
• Subsequent booster injections must be given at regular intervals of not more
than 12 months, commencing after the first booster injection.
• The most recent booster injection must have been given within six calendar
months +21 days prior to the horse competing.
• The full course or booster must have been administered at least seven days
before arriving at the competition.
The vaccination record(s) in the horse’s passport, must be completed, signed and
stamped line by line, by an appropriate veterinary surgeon (who is neither the owner nor
the rider of the horse). For those competing under FEI rules, please refer to FEI rules.
The responsibility to comply with this rule lies with the competitor, who should consult
with their veterinarian.
Horses being found without adequate and up to date vaccinations will not be allowed
to compete and will be barred from competing until such a time that they have been
given their first and second vaccinations. The registration of any horse found in
breach of this rule will be suspended until rectified.

The Side Saddle Association Weekend – now in May 2021 @ Aintree International Equestrian Centre

This event will now take place on the 1st and 2nd May 2021

The Side Saddle Association – International Celebration Weekend

Aintree International Equestrian Centre is proud to once again host this wonderful celebration weekend on behalf of The Side Saddle Association.

The Side Saddle Association has announced a weekend dedicated to the celebration of all things side-saddle. The weekend of competition includes an itinerary of action-packed fun-filled history in the making, with visitors and competitors expected from New Zealand, Japan, Australia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Poland.

The event opens at 9am each day and offers free admission for spectators. The weekend will include a Saturday Masterclass lecture and demonstration ‘what lies beneath the apron’ from Janet Senior, the Side Saddle Associations Advanced Instructor and Association Chairman, who will explain how the side saddle rider connects with their horse. Throughout the weekend there with will a chance for visitors to have a go themselves on mechanical horses (assisted by an instructor).

On Saturday A stunning Side Saddle Gala Display entitled ‘Just One Letter’ telling the story of The Side Saddle Association from its start in 1974 to the present day which all began with the founders writing to Horse and Hound Magazine. It shows the heyday with a vintage hunting scene and ends with a 2020 Side Saddle ‘Olympic’ Opening Ceremony filled with elegance and costumes featuring riders from around the world. The show which starts at 1.00 pm will emphasise how side saddle is thriving with all ages and abilities. Visitors will also be able to talk to master saddle fitters and see them hands-on in the workshops, view the famous Grand National Course and get an exclusive look behind the scenes on the Tour of Aintree. A pop-up equestrian shopping village is on-site along with the full complement of food and beverage outlets.

Saturday’s entertainment concludes with a Glamour and Sparkle Ball including three-course meal served overlooking the winning post of the famous Grand National course.

The Sunday programme will see ladies and men competing in a host of side saddle show competitions including Jumping, Equitation, Costume and Elegance with riders of all ages and abilities from all over the country taking part.

Rules…please read carefully:

In order to ensure fairness, and maintain the spirit of this event, any previous Championship winning combination cannot enter the same level in which they previously won. 

 You may only compete at Intro level if the horse has not gained more than 35 BD points at Preliminary level.

 You may only compete at Prelim level if the horse has not gained more than 35 BD points at Novice level.

 You may only compete at Novice level if the horse has not gained more than 35 BD points at Elementary level.

 You may only compete at Elementary level if the horse has not gained more than 35 BD points at Medium level.

 You can only enter a maximum of two levels and they must be consecutive, eg Prelim & Novice or Novice & Elementary.

 Juniors are not to have attained their 17th birthday on 1st January 2020.
 Seniors are 17 years and above on 1st January 2020.

BD Vaccination Rules

11. Equine Influenza Vaccination
To protect the health of the other competing horses and the biosecurity of the venue,
a valid passport must accompany the horse to all competitions and be produced
on request. Failure to comply is a disciplinary offence and will debar the horse from
competing at the event for which it has been entered. A horse will not be permitted to
compete unless it has a current vaccination against equine influenza which complies with
the following conditions:
• An initial course of two injections for primary vaccination, not less than 21 days
and not more than 92 days apart, are required before being eligible to compete.
• A first booster injection must be given between 150 and 215 days after the
second injection of primary vaccination.
• Subsequent booster injections must be given at regular intervals of not more
than 12 months, commencing after the first booster injection.
• The most recent booster injection must have been given within six calendar
months +21 days prior to the horse competing.
• The full course or booster must have been administered at least seven days
before arriving at the competition.
The vaccination record(s) in the horse’s passport, must be completed, signed and
stamped line by line, by an appropriate veterinary surgeon (who is neither the owner nor
the rider of the horse). For those competing under FEI rules, please refer to FEI rules.
The responsibility to comply with this rule lies with the competitor, who should consult
with their veterinarian.
Horses being found without adequate and up to date vaccinations will not be allowed
to compete and will be barred from competing until such a time that they have been
given their first and second vaccinations. The registration of any horse found in
breach of this rule will be suspended until rectified.
